Employees assisted 8th grade students in a “real-life” simulation offered by Junior Achievement of South Florida
Delray Beach, Florida, May 19, 2016 – Twin-Star employees guided 8th grade middle school students during the JA World “real-life” simulation at the Junior Achievement Finance Park on Friday, March 13th, 2016. Twin-Star volunteers helped students budget their paychecks for necessities. “It’s never too early to teach kids to budget. Good money habits can never start too young,“ explains Twin-Star employee Arenthia Baker.
JA Finance Park is a simulated city created to give students a true experience of what it’s like to work and live as a responsible adult. Students first take a 25-hour class and then apply what they have learned to their experience. JA Finance Park offers an actual business park setting where 16 local businesses are represented. Students are assigned an identity, and then visit each business to apply what they have learned to create their own personal budget- factoring in health care, living arrangements, child care, groceries, clothing, home improvement, transportation, utilities and entertainment.
“At Twin-Star International, we encourage and allow time for our employees to volunteer for an array of programs offered by local non-profit organizations. To achieve even greater impact, our strategic volunteer efforts are aligned with our philanthropic priorities, including community development, supporting disadvantaged youth, fostering entrepreneurship and health issues,” commented Denise Kantrowitz, Twin-Star’s VP Corporate Operations & Human Resources. Kantrowitz continued, “Our employees are passionate and want to create meaningful change in their community. We consider it a privilege to be able to give back to our community. It is not only the community that is benefitting, our employees are building leadership and team building skills while making a significant difference in the community.”
Offered by Junior Achievement of South Florida, JA World is one of several “experimental learning” core programs geared toward K-12 students. JA World includes two programs, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park and serves approximately 48,000 students in Broward and south Palm Beach counties. The JA World initiative is supported by several organizations, and some of the storefronts include Broward Health, Publix and the Sun Sentinel. Junior Achievement of South Florida’s core purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy.
